Have you ever looked at a “Get Ready With Me” video at 6:00 AM and suddenly felt the overwhelming urge to throw out your entire life? Maybe you bought a journal you’ll never write in, downloaded a meditation app you’ll never open, or promised yourself that this Monday is the day you finally become a “5 AM Pilates and green juice” person.
Walk into any store or scroll through your feed, and the message is written on the wall: you need more. We are influenced to optimize our morning routines, manifest new aesthetics, and shed our former selves like last season’s fast fashion. Modern society’s focus on constant innovation and rebranding has led people to feel that they, too, must continually reinvent themselves.
This hunger to reinvent ourselves could be seen as a symptom of anxiety. When our world feels messy, we convince ourselves that modifying our internal “vibe” is the only thing we can actually control. We build a “new me” as a wall against unpredictable circumstances we may or may not face. This paradox of reinvention happens every time we blindly chase a new trend and hand over our individuality.
Growth requires us to build upon the foundation we already have. Just like realizing you don’t need the Sambas to be cool, you don’t need a total life reset to be worthy. The most badass thing you can do in a world telling you to change is to finally just be content with who you are.
